Not everyone can come where you’re going.
This week the Sun transits Gate 7 - The Army. This gate is about strategizing for the future. Two weeks back we discussed the harmonic of this gate: 31 (Influence). Together these two gates form the Channel of the Alpha, which is all about the leadership qualities of Leo.
Rather than just the charisma, influence, and speaking power behind good leadership shown through Gate 31, Gate 7 is the direction of leadership. Originating from the G center, this frequency is a part of the understanding circuit, adept at spotting patterns and projecting them into the future for proper planning.
Human Design’s founder referred to Gate 7 as the “power behind the throne”, and one fitting example of this is Bill and Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton carries 31 - he has the influence and voice to lead. Hillary on the other hand carries the 7 in her design, quietly informing the direction of Bill’s administration.
The army is controlled power. Its resources can only be harnessed when there is order, clear authority, and a logical plan for the future. This week you may find yourself thinking about your future more than usual. Do you know where you are going, and what to do to get there? Who are you following, and do you like where they lead you? What in your life is dysfunctional and in need of structuring?
Gate 7 is the first gate in the Quarter of Bonding. From now until mid-Scorpio season, there is a subtle quality of time focused on relationships. This week specifically may have you evaluating who is really with or against you. Who do you want in your army? Which relationships support your intended direction? Are there patterns from the past replaying in your present relationships, and if so, have you updated your strategy?
Notice the conditioning this week to follow or to lead. You may find yourself in a position to be giving more orders, telling others what to do with their own direction. On the other hand, you may be tempted to align forces with someone of influence, hoping it will empower your future plans.
Gate 7 is grounded by Gate 13 - The Listener. This is about empathy, openness, and learning from the experiences of others. Failing to truly listen this week can lead to discomfort. We all know those people who seem to disagree with anything and everything you say. Such narrow-mindedness is an expression of bitterness and pessimism for life. It fails to listen, and doubles down on misery. But we know too others, seemingly empathetic, but deeply enabling, quick to agree with anything that is shared. This is a form of apathy or even weakness - a failure to listen to oneself, a denial and rejection of individuality.
True listening is discerning, both to the needs and experience of others and of self. Leadership without it is simply self-motivated ambition. The transits this week, with Mercury retrograding in Virgo and Leo, are about the necessary pause before our next step. We have an opportunity to listen to details we may have missed, perspectives we have not considered, and stories from others that when deeply heard, can improve our patterns for the future.
